TRIGGERS are an explosive emotional reaction typically of anger or defensiveness that arises when someone "pushes your buttons" either intentionally or unwittingly. These responses are developed as a response to trauma and are still present in our body long after the trauma is past, unless the person has been able to put their demons to rest. When a triggered response explodes into the conversation, miscommunication, misunderstanding, and hurt feelings are sure to follow. When we are able to resolve and heal the unfinished business represented by these trauma responses, we can release the trigger responses from our body and experience a healthier and more positive interaction with others.
